Naparima College are now the leaders of the Secondary Schools Football League after a 1-0 win over San Juan North Secondary at Lewis Street.

Also working in Naparima’s favour was a monster clash at the Manny Ramjon Stadium, where defending SSFL champions, Shiva Boys’ Hindu College dismissed deposed leaders of the standings, Presentation College 3-0.

Shiva, however, still remain fourth in standings after third-place St Anthony’s College pipped Trinity College East 3-2 to stay a point ahead of them.

Just three points separate the top four teams in the league.

Naparima’s victory over San Juan North created some separation between the fifth-place losers on the day, and the rest of the table, as with 18 points, they are now eight points off the pace, five behind the defending champions.

Shiva’s margin of victory over presentation has come as a surprise, as the defending champions have been in a slight rut since losing a game by virtue of fielding and ineligible player and having their home ground banned in the space of two weeks.

In other games, St Augustine Secondary were bested by the lone goal of the game at home to Fatima College, while newcomers to the league, Carapichaima East Secondary rediscovered the winning formual to get the better of Fyzabad secondary 2-1.

St Mary’s College (CIC) and Trinity College Moka played to an exciting 3-3 draw, while Signal Hill Secondary and Speyside High could not separate themselves from each other in a 2-2 affair.

The Queen’s Royal College (QRC), after falling to last place on Wednesday, rebounded well to drub St Benedict’s College 4-1 in their encounter.

The result sees QRC move to 14th on the 16-team table, while Speyside fall back to their bottom of the rung position.

CIC remain seventh on 15 points, the same as Fatima, in eighth, while Carapichaima chase the two with their 14.
